Jeremy departed to
Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, VA with high hopes of having a
good weekend to start his 2005
USAR Hooters Pro Cup season. What he found in Virginia was
lots of rain. However, USAR officials were determined to get the
Food City 250 completed on the scheduled date.
With a lengthy delay, practice finally
got started in the afternoon. Due to the rain shortened
schedule, practice would only last one hour. This drastically
hurt Jeremy's chances to get used to a new track. He got on the
track as much as possible throughout the hour. He stopped for
quick changes to the car in hopes of making it as good as possible in
a short amount of time. However, he was only able to log around
40 laps at speed on the 3/8 mile track. Jeremy ended up 32nd on
the time sheets.

Qualifying finally got underway early
in the evening. Again the shortened schedule would hurt Jeremy's
chances at making the race. USAR officials decided to cut
qualifying down to only one lap. With a heavy mist falling,
Jeremy was forced to qualify seventh. He felt the car push up
the track as it went into turn one and his lap ended up being 17.963
seconds. This was half a second slower than his practice speed.
Jeremy was too quick to take the blame feeling he had not gotten
himself up to speed fast enough. "I just messed up," Jeremy
stated. However, a wet race track had obviously played a big
part in his much slower time.
The time put Jeremy at the bottom of
the charts and he was part of the 11 team crowd who had to sit out the
Food City 250. Jeremy will next work towards preparing himself
and his race car for the next race on the Hooters Pro Cup Northern
Division schedule. Indianapolis Raceway Park in Clermont, IN
will host the race with practice and qualifying on Saturday May 14th.
The race will be on Sunday May 15th. |
